Project Engineer

Eldico Scientific is a pioneering company specializing in Electron Diffraction systems, enabling cutting-edge crystallographic analysis for nano-crystal and nano-beam research. With headquarters in Basel, Switzerland, and a new manufacturing site in Hamburg, Germany, we are driving innovation in the field of electron diffraction technology while providing Measurement-as-a-Service (MaaS) solutions to our global customer base.

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to contribute to our product development and customer project execution efforts. This dual role position is ideal for a candidate passionate about complex projects, from system design and integration to hands-on assembly, commissioning, and customer delivery.

Key Responsibilities
Development Projects

  • Contribute to the design and integration of electron diffraction systems using 3D-CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement PLC controllers. Knowledge of PLC programming and Python scripting is a plus.
  • Support the implementation of innovative product solutions to enhance system performance and usability.

Customer Projects

  • Manage end-to-end customer projects, including technical procurement, project scheduling (using MS Project), cost management, and resource allocation.
  • Plan and oversee assembly, testing, and commissioning activities, ensuring compliance with quality standards.
  • Lead the shipment and installation process, including on-site commissioning and customer training.

Requirements

  • A degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience managing complex technical projects.
  • Proficiency in 3D-CAD systems and familiarity with PLC programming; Python knowledge is a strong advantage.
  • Excellent project management skills, including scheduling, cost control, and risk management.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; German or other languages are a plus.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for project execution and customer site installations.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in the development or integration of electron diffraction or similar scientific instruments.
  • Some experience or awareness of working with high vacuum systems (EM etc.)
  • Background in manufacturing environments or production planning.
  • Experience working with diverse, international teams.
