ELDICO Scientific (the Electron Diffraction Company) will be launching the first dedicated electron diffractometer specially designed for electron diffraction and nano-crystallographic research, respectively. Nano-crystallography has a broad field of application, but specific devices are not yet available.
For now, these experiments are thus being performed on “retrofitted” transmission electron microscopes (TEMs), which normally require a trained operator. In contrast, when it comes to performing proper electron diffraction, there is no need for a full-blown TEM. Even better: with a dedicated electron diffractometer, crystallographers will no longer have to compete for precious instrument time.
Future users of ELDICO technology include research institutes in science and industry, pharmaceutical companies and contract research organizations (CROs), agrochemical companies and companies in the advanced materials sector. ELDICO plans to have the first instrument ready for use at the customer’s premises in the first quarter of 2021. At present, work on product development is proceeding at full speed, in cooperation with suppliers and development partners from five countries.
Electron diffraction in crystallography is a radical innovation that will greatly benefit from our disruptive instrumentation concept. It is opening up prospects for preparative chemistry and pharmacy, electrochemistry, agrochemistry and specialty chemistry that were unimaginable until only recently.
How familiar are you with electron diffraction and its applications?
Check out our ED quiz game! Participants can win one of five vouchers from Amazon, each worth €50. The quiz will be up for one week – until Friday, June 5, 2020. The wild card in the mix: the lucky winners will be drawn from all those respondents who correctly answer eight or nine questions.
